about mrs. derose


Mrs. DeRose started studying viola at the age of 8. She attended SUNY Potsdam and graduated magna cum laude with  degrees in performance and psychology. There she studied viola with Ken Martinson and she became advanced on violin and cello. She earned her Masters in Music Education from Long Island University –CW Post, graduating with honors. There she studied with Veronica Salas.
 
Mrs. DeRose has performed with the North Shore Symphony, Crane Symphony Orchestra, Crane String Orchestra, Crane Chorus and CW Post Symphony Orchestra. She has been teaching in public schools for a number of years. Currently she teaches Elementary Orchestra and Band in the Hauppauge School District.
 
Mrs. DeRose runs an active private studio. Her former and current students include professional musicians and dedicated amateurs as well as children and teenagers. Students regularly get high scores on NYSSMA adjudications and are valued members of student and community orchestras. Many students have gone on to perform with all-state and all-county orchestras.
 
Mrs. DeRose is a member of many professional organizations, including Music Educator’s National Conference, NYSSMA, Suffolk Music Educators Association and Long Island String Festival Association. She is an active NYSSMA Adjudicator and on the LISFA executive board. 
 
Mrs. DeRose lives in Huntington with her husband and her three dogs -Lucy, Doug and Jade
