NYSSMA is a great way to showcase the great talent we have here in Hauppauge. At NYSSMA, you will perform a solo (given to you by your private teacher or by me), scales or rudiments (see below for the scale requirements) and a short sight-reading. Anyone can perform at the NYSSMA festival.

Below is a couple to reminders when signing up for NYSSMA.
The NYSSMA dates are Friday and Saturday, April 28 & 29, 2017. The site for the festival is Commack Middle School.
The completed application, along with a check for the registration fee (checks made out to “Hauppauge Schools”) is due by Friday February 3, 2017
Please select a preferred day and time of if necessary. Because I have students participating in NYSSMA in all instrumental areas, I would prefer to keep all brass, woodwinds and percussion on Friday; all strings on Saturday. It will help with my own sanity J Again, please check a preferred day and time only if it’s a necessity (wedding, bar mitzvah, tournament etc.) Please make a note of the dates. Once the schedule is finalized, it is hard to make last minute changes.
If you are working with a private teacher, make sure the piece you pick is in the current NYSSMA Manuel. I will double check it when you hand in your application.
If you don’t have a private teacher, the NYSSMA solo we are learning in class will be the solo you’ll perform. I will fill it out on your application when you hand it in.
In addition to your solo, Strings, Brass and Woodwind players will play 3 scales. Percussionists will play 3 rudiments.
